Individuals wishing to stay in the U.S. longer than the permitted time of their visa can request an extension of their visa.  You must meet certain requirements to apply for a visa extension which includes:

• You must have entered the United States legally with a nonimmigrant visa;

• You have not committed any crimes that make you ineligible for a visa;

• You have not violated the conditions of your admission;

• Your passport is valid and will remain valid throughout your stay; and

• You submit your application for extension of star before your current visa expires.
