Child support is an ongoing financial support for the benefit of a child until they reach the age of majority. While it may be a burden for the parent paying child support, remember that it is not a monthly penalty or a handout, rather a necessity for the health and wellness of a child to ensure they are properly cared for.

The child support is set by the Florida Child Support Guidelines. These standards are used to calculate the support needed for a child and the amount a parent has to pay. Our job here at Alcalde Legal is to gather the proper financial information to accurately calculate support.
 

Child support is determined by the following factors:

• Number of children;
• Net income of both parties (only certain deductions are allowed for this calculation);
• The number of overnights of each parent has;
• Child care expenses; and
• Child health care costs.

Overnight time-sharing is a substantial part of the child support calculation.  It is important that a time-sharing schedule is addressed when calculating child support. 

 

The court must use these guidelines when ordering amount of child support that will go in a child support order.
