Modifications in the eyes of a court requires there to be a significant change of circumstances to prove that the original court judgement must be altered in some way.

• Child Support Modification: This may be modified, usually pertaining to the amount of child support you pay or receive per month. One may seek a modification of child support if their income has decreased or the other persons income has increased.  Other modification cases may be because health insurance or day care costs have changed or a child has reached the age of majority.  If you are victorious, this change can go retroactive to the date you filed the modification petition.  It is important to file a modification petition soon after your change in circumstance as it will not go retroactive to that date.​

• Alimony Modification: Alimony payment modifications can result in an increase or decrease in the monthly amount.
